E kipa mai! And welcome to Kapa Hawaii.  The purpose of this website is to help people learn more about the differences between the many types of Polynesian bark cloth collectively known as ‘tapa’ with a special emphasis on the tapa or ‘kapa’ made in the Hawaiian Islands(Hawaiian Bark Cloth or Hawaiian Kapa).  You may also browse our Native Hawaiian Kapa Gallery at "Hawaiian Art Plaza" and order Native Hawaiian Kapa and related items made by someone who is a student as well as a teacher of Hawaiian Kapa art, culture and traditions.  Although this was an art that was done by virtually every Hawaiian woman in ancient times, today there are only a handful of Hawaiian kapa makers who dedicate themselves to this Art.
